Rain, Rain

Words & Music © 2014 Jeffrey E. McCaskill. All Rights Reserved.

When I was a boy, I used to sing that song
“Rain, Rain, Go Away,” but must’ve sang wrong
‘Cause I never could drive the rain away
But now that I’m older, gonna sing it my way.

CHORUS
Rain, rain, don’tcha go away
‘Cause the farmers and the fields need you to stay
And I’d like to thank you for all you do
For the puddles and the streams and the mud-pies, too!

Now, I love the sun when it shows its face
I’lll be running and a-singin’ all over the place
But I don’t get blue when the sky turns grey
‘Cause I know it means rain is soon comin’ my way.

CHORUS
Rain, rain don’tcha go away
“Cause the forests and the flowers need you to stay
if the rain makes you grumpy, just remember, my friend
You’re bound to see a rainbow when the shower ends.

INSTRUMENTAL

CHORUS
Rain, rain don’tcha go away
‘Cause the mountains and the marshes need you to stay
And what’s a little water on a man in love
Just a little liquid sunshine from the heavens above.
