I'd left behind my childhood
But wasn't quite a man
When I laid eyes on Amy
And my love life first began.
I wrote poems in her honor
Had her picture by my bed
And dreamed that maybe one day
Me and Amy would be wed.
But Fate seems to delight in
Foiling our best plans
And mine was not immune to
That fickle lady's hand.
I gathered up my courage
And a yellow rose bouquet
With the eighth-grade fast approaching
I just had to find a way.
I walked up and rang the doorbell
Then waited for my bride
But nothing could prepare me
For what lay just inside.
There was David on the sofa
And Nate sprawled on the floor
And Manny on his skateboard
Sittin' by the kitchen door.
My friends were gathered 'round her
Posing hard and talking fast
But there's just no way to look cool
With an arrow in your ass.
So I sat down there beside them
And hoped it didn't show
For my heart was changed forever
By that menace with a bow.
