Cherish All You Know

Sometimes I wake, it’s morning
Sometimes I wake, it’s afternoon
I wish I’d heeded warnings
That the liquor I so loved
Would one day be my ruin.
And so, I’m alone,
Just a haunted man who wishes
He had cherished all he knew.
And so, I’m alone,
With but memories of kissing you
Beneath an August moon.
Sometimes, I wake up crying
Sometimes, I wake up in your arms
Those years before you dying
Were like swimming in a sea of love
Where none could do us harm.
And then, the bars come,
A reminder that my drinking
Put an early end to you.
And then, the guards come,
And I‘m dragged into the hell
That I deserve for choosing you.
And so, I’m alone,
With but memories of kissing you
Beneath an August moon.
And so, I’m alone,
Just a longing man who wishes
He had cherished time with you.
Sometimes I wake, it’s morning
Sometimes I wake, it’s afternoon
I wish I’d heeded warnings
That the liquor I so loved
Would one day be my ruin.
And so, I’m alone,
Just a haunted man who wishes
He had cherished all he knew.
And so, I’m alone,
With but memories of kissing you
Beneath an August moon.

Sometimes, I wake up in your arms
