Breakup

Words & Music © 2014 Jeffrey E. McCaskill. All Rights Reserved.

Tiny footfalls, wailing voices
Broken hearts and desperate choices
Nothing more to say, the time has come to end it.

Car is packed with all you're takin'
Kiss the kids to ease their breakin'
As they cry out in vain that somehow you can mend it.

Start the car, the tank is full
Tear your heart out with one pull
As you struggle just to mouth the word goodbye.
Goodbye...

Push the pedal, seize your exit
No more thoughts on how to fix it
All that's left is miles of road and endless sky.

Hotel beds and pull-out sofas
Mickey D's and endless mochas
Lean on friends like you've never, never leaned on them before.

Muted smiles and bits of gladness
Find their way through all the sadness
You're on the path to live and laugh and love once more.
Once more...
