Another Way

Hours and days and months and years
Are markers we don't need 'round here
They tell us how much time has passed
Remind us how it's going too fast.
We ought to do away with time
Without it, we'd be doing fine
Let's track our lives another way
By things that take our breath away.
Like baby smiles and that first kiss
And friendly dogs you can't resist
Grandma's hugs and morning swims
In rivers make you young again.
Butterflies and summer nights
Dancing by the firelight
Mountain trails and coffee chats
With friends who get you just like that.
Yeah, I don't have a use for time
It forces life inside the lines
Distracting one and all from seeing
The magic and the majesty.
So if you're being rushed away
By abstract measures of your day
Just toss your watch into the bay
Have faith that there's another way.
