While so many artists seemed content to raise a finger to determine which way musical tastes were blowing, Bowie was always a step ahead, charting an unknown course and dancing to the beat of his own drum. Though some of his artistic forays were commercial failures, all of them were on the bleeding edge of musical expression and had immeasurable impact on the entire industry. His like will never come this way again, and he is sorely missed. Godspeed, Mr. Bowie, Godspeed.
Like so many others, I was devastated to learn that David Bowie had passed. He mastered so many genres of music, and crafted several groundbreaking personae along the way, including Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, and The Man Who Fell To Earth, to name a few.

Hey guys!
Got a new one for you to start the year off right. It's a song of compassion, which the world certainly needs. While enjoying some of the more obscure tracks from Woody Guthrie's astonishing Library of Congress recordings, I was moved to write a Dust Bowl ballad of my own. Needless to say, I dedicate this song to the thousands of survivors who suffered those horrors, only to be ridiculed, exploited, and chastised upon their arrival out West. Also, here's to Woody Guthrie, the prairie poet who gave voice to their suffering. I couldn't ask for a better muse! Peace! NOTE: This song was based on a previously-posted lyric called, "'Tween Somethin' And Nothin', which has been deleted since the new lyric is incorporated into this new song's page. Thanks! Hi everyone! Yes, it's that time again: after an admittedly long lapse, I finally got to work on a new song. This song's about the breakup of a relationship and the unexpected strength and healing we sometimes discover in its aftermath. Hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed creating it. Cheers!
This track is dedicated to Kirsten. It is a song about being true to yourself, no matter the cost. It is also a song about love, and how meaningful it can be if you stick to your vision and never settle for less than your heart desires. I hope it moves you, and thanks for listening! Cheers!
After watching a heart-wrenching documentary, I became inspired to write a song dedicated to those who suffered through the Dust Bowl, lost everything, and headed West to forge a new life. This song follows one family's journey and travels. Wasn't sure about this when I started, but I feel pretty happy with the results. Hope you like it, as well!
I roughed out this poem while I was in college, and seemed to revisit it every several years since, until it managed to say just what I wanted, nothing more, nothing less. While its title conveys my feelings about smoking, I didn't want it to come off preachy, but rather insightful. Hope I succeeded. As always, you be the judge. Cheers!
This song is dedicated to all those good souls out there who are engaged in a meaningful search for a partner to share their lives with. It can be terribly frustrating, to be sure. My hope is that these words will give you the strength to carry on, without settling or compromising your integrity or the qualities you need to thrive in a relationship. Keep up the good fight, and trust that your soulmate is busily looking for you, as well!
01/09/16 UPDATE: After further editing, this lyric became the recording, "Mouthful Of Dust," so the lyric was thereafter deleted. Please take a moment to enjoy the song. Cheers! Tried to call upon the essential elements of a healthy relationship in this one. Wasn't as easy as I thought. I like it when I learn things about myself when trying to arrive at truth in words. Hope you find a little magic here...
After listening to a number of wonderful old Irish folk songs, I was struck with the desire to try my hand at writing one. After some time, and many failed attempts, I found the story I was searching for and put it to song. It involves an old Irishman, full of woe, nostalgia and regret, who is finally returning to his beloved Ireland in feeble health so that he may be buried there. I think I captured something grand in it, but I'll leave you to be the judge. Enjoy!
There's no getting around it: divorces are excruciating, especially when there are children involved. And, through it all, it's the little things that keep us going. Case in point: while lamenting the end of my marriage, I found myself sitting on the back porch a lot, considering what may lay ahead and feeling terribly alone. In those moments, my only company was a statue of St. Francis standing in the garden. So one day, I envisioned a man who had lost everything and tried to get even by stealing his wife's cherished St. Francis statue. And a song was born. Mind you, I never stole it--that statue still sits quietly in her garden to this day. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about it from time to time! ;-)
